HDC3022: Application issues of chips

Part Number: HDC3022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC3021

Tool/software:

Our customers have mentioned a solution to address the condensation issue with the SensorHDC3022, where they can spray a hydrophobic coating on the sensor to cover the sensing area, and then peel off the protective film afterward without affecting the accuracy of temperature and humidity. Is it possible to do this? Additionally, is there a need for additional protection measures, and if so, what specific recommendations can you provide? Thank you.

  • Tony,

Yes its possible to do this. The HDC3022, the PTFE filter is not designed to be removeable. So if a customer sprays any coating on or around the sensor, it will get on the filter and compromise the RH accuracy of the HDC3022. The HDC3021 has a removeable tape designed exactly for the purpose of being removed after being used with sprays or coatings, but it doesn't have the filter. If a customer needs to use HDC3022 with a coating, they will need to manually apply tape (such as Kapton tape) over the sensor cover, apply the coating, let it cure, then manually remove the tape which will allow the sensor to be properly exposed to the air while its pins are protected from water condensation. This is obviously labor intensive, but it will work.

    Thanks
