AWR6843ISK: Regarding extracting the micro doppler spectrograms

Hi, I will be working with this sensor and I do not have the BOOST board required to process the raw radar data. Is it still possible to recover micro doppler spectrograms from the range doppler spectrograms? I have seen some techniques which propose this but want to know if its feasible.

Hi, there:

AWR6843 has ARM core, DSP core and 1.75MByte of memory. It is good for intensive signal processing. But we still recommend you to have the algorithm designed first through off-line with captured raw data to verify your algorithm works well before implement it on target.

For raw data capture, you will need DCA1000 and AWR6843 EVM board.

IC booster is not necessary if you have the AWR6843 EVM in rev D or newer.

Hi, thanks for the information, although my main question remains unanswered if I can obtain microdoppler spectrograms without the raw data?

Hi, Singh:

I can tell you what is range-doppler heatmap, then you should be able to tell whether it is good for your next step calculation.

In SDK out of box demo, the range-doppler heatmap is calculated, which is the non-coherent combinations (across all virtual antenna) of the range-Doppler 2D FFT output.

1) The range-Doppler 2D output (complex value) is first calculated for each antenna, but it is not saved in memory due to the size.

2) Instead the amplitude square of 2D FFT output is calculated and added across all virtual antenna to get the range-doppler heatmap. We also call it the detection matrix that will be used for point cloud detection.
