Good morning!

I am using a AWR6843 radar and I am running the binaries from the example: AWR6843 CPD with Classification. I have been using the config that was part of the example (see attachment) as a basis.

When I am testing the demo in the car, I am getting weird artiffacts. Instead of 1 point I always get 9 points in the same pattern (see attached image).

What could cause those artifacts? The visualization is in ROS but I have the same artifacts when using the matlab visualizer gui.

I am using an antenna module from a supplier (see attached photo). The only information the supplier gave me, was to change the antenna order in the chirp config ( see attached photo)

I am new to radar technology so please excuse me for any "stupid" questions or wrong phrasing.

Hey Niklas,

This is a result of the peak expansion performed after generating the zoomed-in heatmap around a detected point. If peak expansion is enabled - i.e., when the fourth parameter of the dynamic2DAngleCfg is greater than zero and rangeAngleEstMethod = 2 - the neighboring points may be included in the list of detected points which is dependent upon criteria discussed on p. 45-46 of the 3D People Tracking Demo Implementation Guide. Peak expansion is intended to provide more points around the detected peak when the energy of the peak is higher and detected peak shape is sharper in the observed zoomed-in area.

Note: Peak expansion is disabled when rangeAngleEstMethod = 1.

Thanks a lot again Kristien! It worked out. In my case it was the 4th parameter as I have rangeAngleEstMethod = 2

I'm glad you were able to test and confirm this on your end! I will correct my previous reply on the parameter position and dependency on rangeAngleEstMethod, so that other forum users aren't confused by this in the future.
