PGA460: Can PGA460 only as a receiving module?

Part Number: PGA460

Tool/software:

May I ask if PGA460 can be used as an ultrasonic receiving module? We have an ultrasonic transmitting module with a frequency of 50Khz. Can PGA460 be used for receiving? If so, how can PGA460 know the transmission time point?

thank you

  • Hello Ben,

Thanks for posting to the sensors forum! The PGA460 can be used as a receiver but the device has to be commanded to be in a listening mode but the device only remains in the listening mode for the programmed length of time. I am not sure what the details of your exact application are but you would have to somehow synchronize the TX time and the PGA460 RX listening point.

Other options that may work better would be the TUSS44x0 line of devices, these are analog out devices that also offer a digital output pin when an ultrasonic pulse meets the threshold. The difference with this line of devices is that their RX path is always active unlike the PGA460. There would still need to be a level of synchronization from the transmitter in order to calculate the correct time of flight.

If you are able to provide anymore details on your application I may have other suggestions.

    Best,

    Isaac
