IWRL6432: Regarding Chirp Transmission

Part Number: IWRL6432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-L-SDK

Tool/software:

Hello,

Could you please let me know what are the configuration changes needs to be done in order to transmit two chirps in a burst from Tx0 followed by TX1?

Note : We are using MMWAVE-L-SDK  05.04.00.01 and the demo is 6432.

  • Hello.

This is not supported by the TDM and BPM-MIMO schemes, but it might be accomplished a different way with chirp accumulation without the averaging, which would require some software changes.  Is there a specific reason you are trying to chirp this way?  Based on the reason there may be an easier way to achieve what you are trying to do.

    Sincerely,

    Santosh

  • Hi Santhosh,

We are tryiing to do this for enabling chirp accumulation to increase the SNR.

As the the SDK demo userguide, chirp accurmulation config paramerter definition goes like - "Number of accumulation per chirp. This field indicates the Number of chirps to be accumulated before sending the ADC data out in DFE, this can be used to increase the SNR without increasing the number of chirps to process in the DSP/HW accelerator".

Based on this, we understand that we will have to transmit 2 chirp sucessivily from the same transmitter and then if this config is set to 2, we will receive one chirp data for range processing. Can you cofnirm if this understerstanding is correct?

In that case, we are looking to transmit 2 chirps from same Tx. Since in the new SDK, we are not able to configure the Tx for each chirp (as in 3.4), we are thinking to control it with TDM/BPM modes and with multiple bursts. Please let us know if this approach would work?

Please suggest alternatives, if there are better ideas for this.

    You are correct.

I don't think this approach will work from a purely configuration standpoint.  You will have to make some software modifications in the chirp accumulation implementation, which would be some effort.  However, if your goal is to improve SNR and just want to double the chirps, you could do so without the accumulation and just double the total number of chirps.  The accumulation requires the chirps to be from the same TX to avoid the phase difference, but if you just want to improve SNR without the benefit of the reduced radar cube size, then you can just double the number of chirps and still transmit from alternative Tx's.

    Sincerely,

    Santosh.
