AWR6843ISK: Demo Visualizer (Point Cloud data) using 6843ISK, DCA1000EVM, and mmWaveICBoost.

Part Number: AWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, IWR6843ISK, MMWAVEICBOOST, MMWAVE-SDK

Tool/software:

I have all three of these boards connected.  They work with mmWave Studio.  I want to use Demo Visualizer.  Right now, the USB interfaces will not connect.  I think I need to reflash the DCA1000 with the "Out of Box demo binary" for this to work, then back to functional mode.  Is that correct?  Can I use all three boards this way, or just the 6843ISK and DCA1000 together?

  • Hi Larry,
You just need AWR6843ISK EVM and USB cable to use demo visualizer. Please consider using latest SDK for 6843 device-> mmwave_sdk_03_06_02_00-LTS. You need to flash the board with xwr68xx_mmw_demo binary. Please follow instructions in the mmwave_sdk_user_guide for running the OOB.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Ok.  Thanks.  I can program my 6843ISK device now using UniFlash loading xwr68xx_mmw_demo. bin

    1.  If I want to revert back, what do I load?  out_of_box.6843.isk.bin?

So, when I try to run the IWR6843ISK board (stand alone with one USB cable) on Demo Visualizer, I see two USB ports (5 and 6) using Device Manager.  Port 5 connects fine, but it cannot connect port 6.

Could I try running Demo Visualizer using all three boards connected together?  These are the IWR6843ISK, DCA1000, and mmWaveICBoost.

    Thanks in advance,

    Larry

  • Hi Larry,
"xwr68xx_mmw_demo.bin" is the out-of-box demo for 6843 device. You need to install CP2105 drivers for USB to UART communication while operating in standalone mode (Refer EVM user guide). After successful flashing of the device you need to put  AWR6843ISK EVM in SOP4/ functional mode (S1.1 - OFF, S1.2-OFF, S1.3-ON) and perform a reset before using the visualizer/sending the config. While using the device in standalone mode, please also ensure S1.5 is OFF which muxes USER UART to USB connector J5. Please follow EVM user guide for switch settings required in the EVM for different mode of operation. Please ensure that you are following serial port configurations as mentioned in the mmwave-sdk user guide (Snapshot attached). You can also run demo visualizer by connecting 3 boards together, but you need to follow proper connections and switch settings (Refer EVM user guide). Therefore, I would recommend to try running the demo visualizer with EVM standalone mode.

  • Sivaprasad,

I have now successfully been running Demo Visualizer using the 6843ISK in stand alone mode.  I have not succeeded in using it that way using all three boards yet.  I think just some switch settings are the issue.  I will take another look at the EVM user guide.

    Thanks!

    Larry

  • I now have all three boards working together with the Demo Visualizer.   The range and angles appear all to be correct.  Lots to do now.   I need to start looking at the code that does the processing and plotting.  I will start looking.  Thanks!
