AWR1843BOOST: RCS Measurement

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST

Tool/software:

Dear support team,

I have been working with the AWR1843Boost for a few weeks and would like to use it to make RCS measurements of various objects. To do this, I measured a reference target with a known RCS and determined the RCS of another known target from its SNR. Unfortunately, I am not getting the theoretically expected results because the dB SNR value of the target to be determined is always too high or too low.

Example:
Trihedral Corner Reflector (double), L=0.2m -> 23.50 dBsm, SNR measured: ~64dB (reference object)
Metal plate, a=0.6m, b=0.34m -> 45 dBsm, SNR measured: ~63 dB

Is it possible that the radar always tries to maximize the relative power and if so, can this be disabled?

How exactly is relative power or linear defined in the plots?

Markus

  • Hi,

    There have been many discussions in the past regarding this topic

    I recommend you use google site search to review them

    site e2e.ti.com RCS measurement

    I think the conclusion was that it is not possible to perform RCS measurements using the sensors.

    Thank you
    Cesar
