AWR1642BOOST: Choice of dev board for obstacle detection by distance, elevation /azimuth angle

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , AWR1642, AWR1843, AWR2944

Tool/software:

Hi experts,

I am choosing a dev board for my application and I am little bit lost. I would like to detect objects in front of the dev board in this parameters: detection distance 0.5 m - 10m, azimuth and elevation angle as max as possible. I have been trying AWR1642BOOST, but I was not able to manage elevation. However, is this dev board the right one? There is also AWR1642BOOST-ODS, which differs probably only by antenna pattern and SW, and many other dev boards. I could not find the parameters in features/datasheets.

Thanks,

Maro

  • Hi Maro,

    If you want better angle performance, you can go for a device with higher number of virtual antenna channels. For example:

    1. AWR1642: 2Tx * 4Rx -> 8 (8 for azimuth and no dedicated antenna on the EVM for elevation estimation)
    2. AWR1843: 3Tx * 4Rx -> 12 (8 for azimuth and 4 for elevation)
    3. AWR2944: 4Tx * 4Rx -> 16 (12 for azimuth and 4 for elevation)

    Regards,

    Kaushik
