AWR2944EVM: AWR2944 DDMA experiments, abnormal noise levels in RXs

Part Number: AWR2944EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944,

Tool/software:

I am using the AWR2944  board to conduct DDMA transmission experiments, employing 3 transmit antennas and an additional empty band for demodulation. The figure shows the Doppler spectrum of the four receiving antennas I obtained. I observed a significant difference in noise levels across the different receiving antennas, with the noise on RX4 being particularly high. What could be the cause of this, and how can it be avoided? Additionally, this phenomenon only occurs under the DDMA transmission configuration, while the TDM configuration does not show any abnormalities.

  • Hello,

Can you confirm fi you are using the AWR2944EVM or is this a custom board?

    Thanks,

    E. Shareef

  • I am using the TI AWR2944EVM + dca1000 for devolopment.

  • Hello,

    Please run the below experiment:

    • Use TIs mmWave Studio to connect to the device. Disable all TXs during RF INIT Calibrations. Setup the device for a capture with TXs still disabled. You can now take an empty capture. Plot the RX 1dfft data on all the channels and share with us the results. This will show the noise floor levels.
    • Please perform an IF loopback test at 2MHz and show the 1dfft plots.
    • During a capture, can you enable the TX Power, RX Gain and TX Ball break monitors and record their values during your experiment?

    Thanks,

    E. Shareef
