IWR6843AOP: Radar Object detection, reduced FOV and range

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using IWR6843AOP sensor module to develop detection object (the smallest object that the sensor should be able to detect is a metal post with a diameter of 75 mm) /human detection in 2 scenarios, and would  like to ask couple of questions regarding them:

  1. 60 degree Azimuth elevation in 5m range,
  2. At least 90 degree azimuth and elevation in 10m range, main focus on human detection,

In both Scenarios radar should be placed at 1.5-3m height and sensor unit will be mounted on moving vehicles.

Ad 1. While testing the out of box demo (with mmwave visualizer) we occured the problem:

While radar is at 1m height, detection of a target is correct, but when the radar is placed above that value, it can't detect small objects like Pipe's of 0.8/1m height  and 0.65m radius, made of metal/plastic and we expect to check the wood material aswell. It's FOV radically drops. When we are changing the orientation of the target by 90 degrees( laying on the ground) the target can be seen, received amplitude is high, behavior of the sensor is correct. The sensor was set at different angles and at various heights greater than one meter, but no improvement was observed .Basically we can't properly detect small objects in 60Azim,60Elev config when we increase sensor's installation height

We have used this configuration file,  photos attached aswell. When radar is placed above 1m, there's no signal present like in Correct_detection_1m_mount.png photo, but when we change the orientation by 90 degrees, detection is correct.

Ad 2. While using the area scanner demo for human detection, we can't pass the range of 8 meters for correct detection. We've tried every attached configuration file, and tried some of our own examples but we can't properly track the targets in the 10m zone. The problem from Ad.1 is also present.  Is it possible to cover 10m zone in 120 degrees FOV with single sensor, purely by properly defining it's signal configuration?  Also is area scanner good example if we would like to detect both static and dynamic objects?

I also list the folder of photos with the setup.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Best regards,
