IWR6843ISK: Beamforming vs aoaCfg

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Currently we are planning to work on the beamforming in the 6843 device on the Long range people counting demo.

We have a requirement - To form a beam at 0 degrees - steeringAngle = 0

There is a radar configuration command - aoaCfg -90 90 -90 90, which speaks of the azimuth and elevation angles.

Can you give your thoughts on the following:

  1. Is it possible to give steeringAngle = 0?
  2. What would be the performance difference by changing the configuration from aoaCfg -90 90 -90 90 to aoaCfg -5 5 -25 25?
  3. Does beamforming at 0 degrees and the aoaCfg -5 5 -25 25 focus only the area near to the boresight?
  4. What are the parameters to be handled to increase the signal strength at boresight other than the beamforming at 0 degrees?
  5. Which would provide a better performance?

Thanks in advance
