Hi team,

Currently we are planning to work on the beamforming in the 6843 device on the Long range people counting demo.

We have a requirement - To form a beam at 0 degrees - steeringAngle = 0

There is a radar configuration command - aoaCfg -90 90 -90 90, which speaks of the azimuth and elevation angles.

Can you give your thoughts on the following:

Is it possible to give steeringAngle = 0?
What would be the performance difference by changing the configuration from aoaCfg -90 90 -90 90 to aoaCfg -5 5 -25 25?
Does beamforming at 0 degrees and the aoaCfg -5 5 -25 25 focus only the area near to the boresight?
What are the parameters to be handled to increase the signal strength at boresight other than the beamforming at 0 degrees?
Which would provide a better performance?

Hello,

You can think of aoaCfg as simply FOV, as it is the FOV that the aoa algorithm will run on. Setting it to aoaCfg -90 90 -90 90 ensures every possible point is considered.

But this didn't resolve my query.

Let me be more detailed.

For beam-forming in zero degrees, the txPhaseShifter value is equal to 0.(generated by the phaseShift.py available in the long range people counting)

Consider the default confguration:

profileCfg 0 60 35 6 43.0 0 0 8.241 1 125 3433 0 0 48

The txPhaseShifter value is already zero. Does this mean the beam forming at zero degrees?

If yes, then can the signal strength be increased for this configuration?

If no, then how to achieve beam forming only at zero degrees, since the area of interest is only at the bore-sight?(only beam-forming is sufficient)

First off, I want to confirm that you have seen this document.

Second, you are correct with the default profileCfg having the beam formed around 0 degrees. With your question of "can the signal strength be increased for this configuration?", is the purpose of this question to see more points at longer ranges? As working with SNR and point cloud generation is separate from the beamforming.
