IWR6843: Beamforming: Increase the performance

Part Number: IWR6843

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I'm working on the True ground speed detection lab from Radar Toolbox.
I would like to increase the signal strength of the Main lobe at boresight (forming angle at 0 degree) and attenuate the sidelobes.
In radar configuration, 'txPhaseShifter' is set to '0' value.

Are there additional configuration parameters available for increasing the Main Lobe signal strength, apart from the txPhaseShifter parameter?

Thanks
Mohan

  • Hi

Thanks for your query. Please allow us a couple of days to respond.

  • Hello Mohan,

My sincere apologies for the delayed response here. Can you let me know the purpose for trying to increase the signal strength? Is this in an effort to get a more accurate ground speed measurement? Generally, a greater number chirps, higher Tx output power and higher Rx gain all improve signal quality. Have you already been modifying these parameters in the configuration?

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Team,

My apologies, I'm working on the OOB demo from Radar Toolbox.

    My range of detection: -0.5m < x < 0.5m; 0 < y < 7m; -1m < z < 1m

    Thanks

  • Hi Mohan,

Thanks for the clarification. Please give me another day to look into this and get back to you.

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Mohan,

My apologies for the delay here. I appreciate your patience. This document describes the Tx beamforming used in the Long Range People Detection example. I think this will be a useful resource for you.

    Best Regards,

    Josh
