PGA460: Anemometer with 3 ultrasonic sensor pairs

Part Number: PGA460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6043, EVM430-FR6043

Tool/software:

Hello
We are developing an anemometer consisting of 6 ultrasonic sensors, each consisting of 3 pairs of ultrasonic sensors. The sensors are to be used as transmitters and receivers in both directions to determine the wind speed. Can you tell me if I can implement this case with the PGA460 and how the ultrasonic sensors have to be wired to use them both as a pair in both directions?
Best regards,
Florian

  • Hi Florian,

Thank you for your question. For flow rate applications(upstream and downstream) such as an anemometer application we typically recommend the usage of the EVM430-FR6043.  The MSP430FR6043 is well suited to these designs as it offers 2 channels for determining delta ToF between 2 transducers.  You would need to use multiple devices or a mux for 3 pairs of transducers.  See the application brief below regarding high resolution anemometer.

I do not directly support the EVM430-FR6043 so if you have any specific questions about this device feel free to make another post for this device specifically in the MSP430 forum. I hope this helps provides some guidance.
