AWR1642BOOST: mmWave Industrial Toolbox version 4.7

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, IWRL6432, IWRL6432BOOST, IWR1443BOOST

Tool/software:

I recently purchased the AWR1642BOOST EVM for development purposes. I understand that the latest version of the mmWave Industrial Toolbox does not support the Vital Signs Lab for the AWR1642, but older versions like 4.7 do. Could you please provide access or a link to the mmWave Industrial Toolbox version 4.7, which includes the Vital Signs Lab for this EVM?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

  • Hello,

Please see the readme file in the Radar_Toolbox for info on accessing older versions of the toolboxes.

  • Dear Jackson,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to request access to the Industrial Toolbox version 2.5, which includes the Vital Signs Lab for the AWR1642. I require this version to familiarize myself with the coding associated with this application on the AWR1642, solely for educational purposes as a prototype.

From the following topic, I understand that this version may no longer be publicly available:
    https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/1037232/faq-awr1642boost-industrial-toolbox-v2-1-2

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with this version, or the latest version of the Industrial Toolbox that supports the Vital Signs Lab for the AWR1642Boost EVM.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

    Best regards,
    Jules

  • Hi Jules,

ITB version 2.5 is not available. But version 4.7 can be found at the link below. You can use the package manager to display older toolboxes not enabled by default.

However if you want to develop vital signs, I suggest you upgrade to a more recent device family. Most up to date support is on the IWRL6432 device.

    Jackson

  • Dear Jackson,

I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for providing the link to version 4.7 of the Industrial Toolbox. I have successfully downloaded it, but I noticed that the Vital Signs Lab in this version seems to be available only for the 14xx and 68xx devices. As I am working with the AWR1642BOOST EVM, I require the version that supports the development of vital signs on the AWR1642. (from my understanding the Industrial Toolbox version 2.5, includes the Vital Signs Lab for the AWR1642 )

Could you kindly provide guidance on how to access the relevant lab for the AWR1642boost? ( Alternatively, if this is no longer supported, is there a recommended approach for developing this functionality with the AWR1642?

Thank you once again for your assistance.

    Best regards,
    Jules Garsault

  • Hello Jules,

Support for vital signs on 1642 is no longer available. The code for the 1443 is included like you say, and the code should be fairly similar. You will need to take the algorithm from the 1443 and port it on top of the out of box demo for the 1642. However, I think you would be better off buying a newer EVM that has SW ready to go. Unless there is a specific reason you have chosen the 1642, most vital signs applications I am aware of require 60GHz for regulatory reasons. The IWRL6432BOOST EVM is recommended.

    Jackson

  • Dear Jackson,

Thank you so much for your continued support and for sharing insights on working with the AWR1642BOOST EVM. I completely understand that the official support for vital signs on the AWR1642 is no longer available, and that newer devices like the IWRL6432 are recommended.

However, for my current project, I’m specifically working with the AWR1642BOOST, and gaining access to Industrial Toolbox version 2.5, which originally included the Vital Signs Lab for this EVM, would be incredibly helpful. Even though I could attempt porting the 1443 code, having the original 1642 lab would save a great deal of time and effort.

Is there any possibility of getting access to this older version, even if it’s no longer publicly available? I would greatly appreciate it, as it would help me better understand and develop with the AWR1642 for my educational prototype.

Thanks again for your help, and I look forward to your response.

    Best regards,
    Jules Garsault

  • Hi Jules,

Why did you specifically choose the AWR1642BOOST EVM?

It is not possible to provide the older toolbox.

    Regards,

    Jackson

  • Dear Jackson,

I selected the AWR1642BOOST primarily due to its higher antenna gain (>9 dBi) and its performance in the 77 GHz band, which offers better angular resolution and longer-range sensing capabilities. These features are crucial for my project, which involves precise tracking and detection of vital signs. Additionally, the AWR1642’s proven performance in industrial applications aligns perfectly with my development requirements.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Best regards,
    Jules Garsault

  • Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the toolbox package is not available. But the IWR1443BOOST has an antenna with basically the same gain, also 77GHz band, and will have improved angular resolution from an extra TX antenna.

However all of this SW is legacy SW and provided as is with very minimal support.

    Regards,

    Jackson
