TMAG5231: Sensor orientation

Part Number: TMAG5231
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5233

Tool/software:

Hello,

what is the optimal sensor orientation for PCB placement for the sensor to detect magnet motion in the Y-direction. Please see the attachment. it has 2 sensors orientations A and B. The magnet motion is shown in red arrows.

Due to space constraints, i need to change the orientation to B. is it OK? will it reduce sensitivity or cause any other issues?

Thanks.

  • Guarav,

The sensitivity of this device is to the field component perpendicular to the sensor as shown in this figure:

Rotating the package should have no impact on the measurement.  If you are looking for a sensor with In-Plane sensitivity, I would recommend looking at TMAG5233.

However, to detect the magnet motion you have described in the Y direction, the vertical component will depend on the polarization direction of the magnet.  If the magnet pole is directed down towards the PCB, either rotation should be fine.

    thanks,

    Scott
