HDC3021: Effects of air flow

Part Number: HDC3021

Tool/software:

Dear Technical Support Team,

HDC3021 has protective tape and I have been evaluating humidity without removing tape.

Then I haven't get correct humidity value(No Air flow), but we are able to measure humidity  when the device is exposed to wind.

Currently, the board isn’t in a system case and I'm evaluating as a only board. The final product will be built into a system case and the environment will be natural convection.
However, I am not certain that there is really convection.

■Questions

(1)Can HDC3021 measure humidity if there is no air flow(no convection), etc.?

Is air flow(convection) a must for humidity measurement?

(2) Should I remove the tape while evaluate the humidify(Not mass production)?

I would like to know if the tape affects the humidity measurement in the no convection and other conditions.
(It seems to be able to measure when wind is applied).

(3)Is there an HDC series that can detect without convection?
(It should have the same level of performance as HDC3021DEHR and be able to replace it.)

Best Regards

ttd

  • Hello ttd,

The HDC3021's protective polyimide tape is meant to protect the sensor from pollutants produced during the manufacturing process, such as SMT assembly, PCB wash, and conformal coating. The tape must be removed after the final stages of assembly for accurate measurement of relative humidity in the ambient environment.
