DRV5055: thickness of the leads

Part Number: DRV5055

Tool/software:

We had a question come up from our product development team in regards the thickness of the leads of the DRV5055A4QLPG (TO-92 package). It has a portion on the leads that sticks out a little bit. Can you assist in providing the typical thickness of this portion?

Is the 0.55 highlighted in reference to the slightly thicker part there?

  • Alex,

this region of the leads are not a controlled spec for this package.  These tabs are remnants of the lead frame after stamping the individual packages free from the larger frame.  Given this, our assembly sites don't usually monitor this for consistency, so it would be difficult to provide a typical measurement.

Some customers attempt to use these tabs to force a particular spacing from the PCB, but if the tolerance results with a narrower lead, it is possible that this wider region will not catch at the PCB surface.  To get the most reliable placement, using a spacer like might be seen for an LED is advised. Another option is to design the sensing solution for the sensor to be fully inserted into the through-hole opening for the lead and rest the package against the surface of the PCB.

    Thanks,

    Scott
