TMP119: TMP119

Part Number: TMP119
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP118EVM, TMP118

Tool/software:

Hi, I'm subin Bae from Korea. I made a flexible PCB with "TMP119" to measure temperture. When I use this, sensor degree is  weird. Sometimes it measure 256 degree or 0 degree and also it sometimes shows 430 degree. I think when sensor surface got demaged it occur but I'd like to know what is different 430, 256 and 0 degree.

  • Hello Bae,

Can you provide a schematic for me to review along with I2C commination shots if possible? This will allow me to better assist you and debug your issue.

  • Hi, This is Bae.
    Here is our schemetic.
Is it enough to check the problem?
If you need more imformation, Please email to me.
    Thank you.
  • Hello Bae,

Overall the schematic looks good. It is recommended to use 5K pullup resistors but using lower resistor values works as well. The TMP119 has not been tested on flex PCB and I'm uncertain about the strain performance of the TMP119 on a flex PCB. If there's no added stiffener under the device you can run the risk of the solder balls breaking. Some ideas to consider is to thicken the PCB and stiffener. We are currently working on a new die that has enhanced stain performance. The user guide for TMP118EVM is located here: https://www.ti.com/lit/snou203

  • Thank you for your concern. I'm really curious about TMP118. When can I buy the sensor? I really wondering about the sensor size spec. (I need very low sensor spec.)  If I buy few EVM board, Is it possible to get some samples? Isn't it possible, I really want to buy EVM board and some samples if it's possible. I'm looking forward to your positive responde. Thank you very much.

  • Hello Bae,

Lets connect you with a FAE to go through the process of what we can provide. I believe that the TMP119 should be able to work properly on a flex PCB. Can you provide photos of the TMP119 device itself on the flex PCB? This would allow me to confirm damage to the device.

    Best Regards,

    Meredith McKean

  • Hello, Mckean.

That's very interesting suggestion about connecting with a FAE. Thank you very much.

It's hard to wait until the TMP118 release.

Here is our FPCB with TMP119. It's little difficult to recognize.

If you need more about our FPCB, I'll take a photo bigger.

    Thank you for you support.

  • Hello Bae,

I have connected you with the FAE through email. Can you provide a close-up photo of the TMP119 die? I want to see the damage if there is any. Can you provide I2C scope shots?

    Best Regards,

    Meredith McKean
