TMP468EVM: Cant get EVM to run as advertised.

Part Number: TMP468EVM

Tool/software:

Downloaded and installed/ran the Google Chrome GUI. That came up but only showed one set of temp values on the graphs, not repeating. If I disconnected and reconnected (using icons at bottom of GUI), it would take another set of temp readings. Explored on-line help. Only suggestion that seemed reasonable was to reflash the MPS430. But when I looked at the "easy" directions for this, I could not figure them out.  So I went back to the EVM user manual and followed the path to installing the off-line version of the GUI: downloaded the zip file as directed, expanded it, but can't find the setupwin.exe file it says I'm supposed to run.

I'm a hardware guy. Over the years I've been told "you are not being paid to do PC support."  (I have been doing this on my personal PC because I'm not allowed to install software on my work PC. I don't have admin rights)

Thanks for any suggestions. Thanks for any step by step directions.

  • Hi Robert,

I don't have the hardware available to test right now, but I notice a discrepancy when I load up the GUI. On the Data Capture tab, the Refresh Rate should control how often samples are collected from the sensor. Here it is configured to once every 100ms.

If I jump to the Registers tab, there is an Auto Read setting that says "Off." This control should be linked to the Refresh Rate on the other page, and they should report the same thing. Could you try setting your Auto Read to something other than Off?

    thanks,

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I thought there might be some switch like that, I just didn't see it. Set it for 50ms. On another temp sensor demo I could use my finger to heat it up a bit and see the reaction. Here I think the currents are so low that one's finger conducts enough current that it totally messes up the remote sensors. With an insulating layer, I could sense my finger temperature.

  • Hi Robert,

Thanks for confirming the solution. I wanted to add that I have tested the hardware with the GUI today and verified the problem/solution as well. It seems to have been broken by updates to the GC tool or component libraries. I was able to resolve the problem simply by re-publishing the TMP468EVM GUI under the latest library version. If you run the 1.0.1 version here, you should not encounter the startup issue any more. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
