DCA1000EVM: Using DCA1000ECM and AWR1843BOOST for micro doppler detction

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843BOOST

Tool/software:

Hi, im using DCA1000EVM and AWR1843BOOST for my drone detection, if im not mistaken both of the items were functioned as radar right? and I wanna ask do they also can detect micro doppler effects of an object especially flying object like drones , birds etc?

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting your question over E2E. Please allow us a day or so to respond.

  • Hello,

Sorry for the delay here. The DCA1000EVM is an extra evaluation module that allows the extraction and recording of unfiltered, unprocessed, dumped ADC data straight from the mmWave sensor's buffer. It does not do anything by itself. Data output such as the point cloud, tracker, 1D FFT range profile, etc is sent over from the sensor itself, and is the intended use of TI's mmWave Radar product line. Raw data capture can be used to create custom algorithms that generate point cloud and other output instead of using ours. I also believe you should use a 6843 instead, as most of our object tracking algorithms and similar non-automotive demos are made for that device. We are able to use micro doppler effects currently in order to classify clusters of detections as human or not human, thus I believe with a ML model you could definitely detect and possibly classify drones vs birds vs other objects.

    Best Regards,
