MMWAVE-STUDIO: Unable to connect for RS232 Operations

Part Number: MMWAVE-STUDIO
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, DCA1000EVM, , UNIFLASH, AWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hi,

I'm using AWR6943ISK, MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000EVM. The connection of the boards is shown in the first image.

Before I tried to connect the board to MMWAVE-STUDIO, I've reset the MMWAVEICBOOST manually and with MMWAVE-STUDIO reset control.

The switch settings of the MMWAVEICBOOST are configrued for DCA1000 Mode:

S1.12: ON, S1.11: ON, S1.10: ON, S1.9: OFF, S1.8: OFF, S1.7: OFF, S1.6: OFF, S1.5: ON, S1.4: OFF, S1.3: ON, S1.2: ON, S1.1: OFF

The switch setting of the AWR6943ISK are configured for mmWAVEICBOOST mode:

S1.1: OFF, S1.2: OFF, S1.3: OFF, S1.4: ON, S1.5: OFF, S1.6: OFF

The SOP of MMWAVEICBOOST are configured for development mode (SOP mode 2):

SOP.0: 1, SOP.1: 1, SOP.2: 0

I tried several things like install the AWR68ISK firmware with the UniFlash but I only could install the firmware xwr68xx_mmw_demo.bin of the mmwave_sdk demo.

I tried diferent SOP configurations, diferent switch configurations unsuccessfuly.

Could you gave me some steps in order to fix this problem?

Thanks you!

  • Hi Marc

The switch settings on the AWR6843ISK board are not properly set (S1.4 and S1.5). Please refer the following link for the ISK + Carrier and DCA1000 Setup details - switch settings and then you should be able to connect to RS232 successfully.

    Thanks and regards,
    Deexith.

  • Hi Deexith,

I've adjusted the switch settings on the AWR6843ISK according to the configuration in this: DCA1000 mmWave Studio User Guide

    S1.1: OFF, S1.2: OFF, S1.3: OFF, S1.4: OFF, S1.5: ON, S1.6: OFF

I've also adjusted the switch settings on the DCA1000 board as follows:

    S1.1: OFF, S1.2: OFF, S1.3: OFF, S1.4: OFF, S1.5: ON, S1.6: OFF, S1.7: OFF, S1.8: OFF

However, I'm still unable to connect to the COM port. Any advice on resolving this would be appreciated!

  • Hi Marc,

While using the mmwave studio, can you confirm whether there are any other applications that are open and are trying to access the same COM3 port? I would recommend close all other application/ tools other than mmWave studio on your PC and try to connect to COM3 here using mmWave studio manually i.e. after reset. Please use the switch settings as recommended in the DCA1000 mmWave Studio User Guide

    Thanks.
