OPT3007: any risks for functionality point of view WITHOUT capacitor

Part Number: OPT3007

Tool/software:

We noticed that we do not have a 100nF power supply filtering capacitor in the OPT3007 supply voltage VDD line. Do you see any risks for functionality point of view when we do not have the capacitor on the PWB board? I understand the datasheet so that it is recommended but not strongly necessary.

  • Hi Winnie,

The decap capacitor on the VDD line is recommended to stabilize the voltage on the pin. Because the device itself draws very little current, voltage may be stable enough without the decap. We would also want to consider that the current through I2C pull-ups is not close to the device VDD pin without decap. Could you please provide your schematic so that I can verify further? If you are able to check the stability of the voltage on the VDD pin without decap in your system including during I2C activity that would also provide some clarity.

    Thanks,

    Daniel Balmaceda
