Hi,

I am looking for a proximity sensor to implement the collision prevention function of the application. If you have an IC that can meet the following specifications, please let me know.

<specifications>

・Application: Proximity detection (collision prevention)

・Detection range: 0 mm to 30 mm

Even if the shortest distance is not 0 mm, you want it to be as close as possible to 0 mm

・Directivity: Wide range

・Detection target: Metal

    Hi Nishie,

    Our OPT3101 is AFE for distance measurement, obstacle detection and avoidance. 

    At 10MHz modulation frequency, it supports up to 15m distance; At 8.57MHz it can extend the distance up to 105m in theory - the real distance range will be dependent on optics, eye safety considerations will add to the complexity of the design as well. 

    Detection range (FoV) can vary based on what LEDs / PDs and lenses are used in the system and what detection range is required. Customer will have flexibility to design the optics for the applications. 

    Please refer to the datasheet OPT3101 data sheet, product information and support | TI.com for more details. On the website here OPT3101EVM Evaluation board | TI.com, System Estimator can be used to estimate the performance. EVM is available if verification test is needed.

    Is it safe to assume that it is possible to measure not long distance such as 15m but short distance such as 0mm to 30mm?

    Hi Nishie-San,

    Within 30mm should be detectable. The minimum distance will be limited by optical design configuration, residue crosstalk, etc. Our part can be used for longer distance too.
