TMAG5170D-Q1: What's the difference between TMAG5170D-Q1 and TMAG5170?

Part Number: TMAG5170D-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5170, TMAG5170-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear Technical Support Team,

What's the difference between TMAG5170D-Q1 and TMAG5170?

TMAG5170D-Q1 has a dual die version, could you share the advantage for this?

In my case, application is for industrial. If TMAG5170D-Q1 has higher precistion than TMAG5170, I'd like to use TMAG5170D-Q1.

Best Regards,

ttd

  • ttd,

    Thanks for your question.

TMAG5170D-Q1 is a dual die automotive grade version of TMAG5170.  Functionally the two devices have similar functionality, but automotive grade devices are tested to handle the wider temperature operating range.

The intent of the dual die form factor is to achieve a higher functional safety rating than the single die automotive device (TMAG5170-Q1).  In certain applications, such as power train and steering, it is necessary to have a redundant sensor to reduce the likelihood of an event that causes loss of control or otherwise risks the life of the passengers.

I believe the device electrical table between the TMAG5170 and TMAG5170D should match one another, so unless you would benefit from a redundant sensor, I would expect that you should be able to use the commercial grade device.

    Thanks,

    Scott
