AWR2243: AWR2243 four-chip cascade design Slave 2 transceiver antenna does not work properly, and the RF function does not start successfully

Part Number: AWR2243

Tool/software:

Dear TI engineers, hello!
We are using AWR2243 to design a four-chip cascade radar. We have encountered a problem. Please help to solve it:
At present, the transmitting antennas and receiving antennas of the three chips of our master, slave 1, and slave 3 can work normally, and each transmitting and receiving antenna has data. However, the three transmitting antennas and four receiving antennas of our slave 2 cannot work properly. The three transmitting antennas of slave 2 do not send waveforms, and the four receiving antennas of slave 2 cannot receive any signals. The antenna schemes of our four AWR2243 are the same.
I checked that the master can normally generate 20GHZ LO signals (but we cannot detect whether slave 2 has successfully received the 20GHZ LO signal), and the synchronization signal (DIG_SYNCIN) is also normal, and the 40MHZ crystal oscillator signal is also available. The SPI communication of slave 2 in the software is normal, and there is a corresponding interrupt signal (SPI_HOST_INTR1). I checked that the power supply of the slave is normal, including NERROR_OUT, WARM_RST, and NRST. Judging from the current fluctuation, the RF function of slave 2 should not be successfully started, because when we turn on the transceiver antenna of slave 2, there is no obvious current fluctuation.
How should we check the specific cause? Can the software monitor the status returned after the AWR2243 transmitting antenna or receiving antenna is successfully turned on?
      Looking forward to your reply!
      Best wishes!

  • Hi Haigang,

Let me assign this E2E to the right person. In the meantime, you can check Imaging Radar Using Cascaded mmWave Sensor Reference Design (Rev. A).

  • Hello,

I would recommend starting by running the following monitors to understand if the device is working properly. This will help us understand if anything is wrong with the TX/RX and LO paths.

    1. AWR_MONITOR_PMCLKLO_INTERNAL_ANALOG_SIGNALS_ CONF_SB

    2. AWR_MONITOR_TX0_POWER_CONF_SB

    3. AWR_MONITOR_TX1_POWER_CONF_SB

    4. AWR_MONITOR_TX3_POWER_CONF_SB

    5. AWR_MONITOR_RX_GAIN_PHASE_CONF_SB

The details for these monitors can be found in the ICD.

  • Hello Adrian
Thanks for your answer. After modifying the program, the transmit channel of our slave 2 can now be used and can send waveforms, but there is still no data in the receive channel of our slave 2. When the receive channel is turned on, we can see that the current changes by 30 to 40 mA, which is almost the same as the current change after the other AWR2243 receive channels are turned on. It can be preliminarily judged that the receive channel is turned on. We currently cannot read the status of AWR_MONITOR_RX_GAIN_PHASE_CONF_SB. Please tell me the specific operation and where this variable can be modified and read. Our main control chip is FPGA, and the data of the slave 2 receiving antenna is received through CSI2. We checked that the CSI2 pin wiring is correct.
May I ask where we can check next?
    Thank you.
