TMP119: Skin Probe

Hi,

We are using the TMP119 for measuring the skin temperature on surface of the babies and patients. We request you to suggest some potting method or any user guide to make skin probe with tmp119.

Since the IC is too sensitive even a small crack on tmp119IC, the data is not coming and it doesn't work. We tried with our usual methods to make skin probe, but the TMP119 IC is breaking when we apply little much of pressure on it. So please let me know any special procedure or any user guide to make TMP119 as skin probe

Hello Subramanian,

For measuring body temperature, using a flex PCB can be used. To use a flex PCB, I would recommend adding stiffener under the device to prevent the solder balls from breaking.

Hello Meredith,

Thanks for the suggestions, but the problem is not about flex PCB or rigid PCB. It is about TMP119 IC breaking every time( due to glassy finish).

Method used by us :we place theTMP119 breakout board in Stainless steel cup(SS cup),ensuring the tmp119 IC surface and SS cup have direct contact. then we will place the SS cup to skin surface. But the issue comes while I am placing tmp119 breakout board in SS cup, I will apply little pressure from the back side of the board. That time IC is breaking every time.

For What purpose we are going to use TMP119 : We will measure the body temperature by making skin probe ( with 30cm wire).

Hello Subramanian,

I'm still trying to understand how the TMP119 is being damaged. What temperature error are you seeing? If it was the glassy finish, it would be only a couple degrees off. Can you describe how you are assembling the TMP119 device?
