IWR6243: Self Calibration

Part Number: IWR6243

Tool/software:

Hi TI Support,

We connect the IWR6243 to a standard CSI2 compatible host device which uses the SPI for control RF Front End.

We need some suggestions about self calibration. We have 1 configured frame triggered each cycle. We want to perform periodic calibration as frequently as possible at idle time at the end of the frame. (calibMonTimeUnit=1, calibPeriodicity=4)

Periodic Calibration Case

  • When we tried to use periodic calibration, we noticed that the reports from the sensor came at random different time intervals. These time intervals were completely irregular and random. (sometimes once every 2-3 frames, sometimes no report at all for 40 frames). In the Radar Interface Control document, it is written that APLL and SYNTH calibrations are done every second, but still the other calibrations are expected to be completed in the specified period.
  • When we changed the "calibPeriodicity", nothing changed, we still get reports at random intervals.
  • When we changed the "calibMonTimeUnit" to any number other than "1", no report comes to the host device.

We thought that this situation was caused by using 1 frame in each cycle. Then we tried to use One Time Calibration manually in each frame.

One Time Calibration Case

  • If we send "AWR_RUN_TIME_CALIBRATION_CONF_AND_TRIGGER_SB" just before the frame trigger, the specified cycle time is extended by about 2ms. This means that the calibration is not performed at idle time, maybe it performed before or after the idle time.
  • If we send send "AWR_RUN_TIME_CALIBRATION_CONF_AND_TRIGGER_SB" at the exact end time of chirping (just before idle time), the reports are coming random intervals same as the periodic calibration I mentioned above.

Can you give us more details about how can we handle periodic calibrations in case of using 1 frame in 1 radar cycle.

Best Regards
