FDC2214EVM: Some problems about FDC2214 EVM

Part Number: FDC2214EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2214

Tool/software:

Hello TI Experts:

I am using FDC2214 EVM board to testing my system. I met some problems. Pls give your suggestions:

1. What do the green and red lights in EVM mean?

2.When I connected the evm by using my capacitance sensor and used sensing GUI to read the data, I found that the red light is on. Also, there is an error code in Device Status. But the measured value is continued updating.

3.Can I switch the different sensor when FDC2214 EVM is powered? If I do, can you suggest what the performance is?

Thanks

  • Dengkuan,

The red LED means the EVM is working with the installed firmware.
Updating the EVM firmware causes the red LED to turn off, and the green LED to turn on.

We have not evaluated device behavior while switching between different sensors when the device remains powered-up.

    Regards,
    John

  • Thanks John.

It seems that parts of questions are not answered.

    1. Does that mean that the status of EVM is fine although the red light is on? What does the green LED mean? How to explain that there is only the green LED to be on without other sensor?

    2. How to explain the error code in Device Status under Configuration page althought I can read the measured value?

3.Can I switch the different sensor when EVM remains powered-up?

    Thanks

  • I would like to add more information about Deivce Status. Pls refer to the picture.

In addition, there is a strange phenomenon that I cannot understand. I cut the sensor of evm, and use CH0, CH1 and CH2 to connect three different sensor for testing the proximity distance. When my hand moves to the sendors closely, the measured capacitances change higher. But, when I touched CH1 and CH2 sensors, the measured capacitance of CH0 become less, and the ones of CH1 and CH2 become more. How to explain this?

You can refer to the following pictures:

The picture is before touching CH1 and CH2 sensors

This picture is after touching CH1 and CH2 sensors

    Thanks

  • Dengkuan,

    1. What behavior are you seeing in the red and green LEDs?
In my EVM, after upgrading the firmware, the red LED turned off, and he green LED switched on.

    2. I will look into your questions about device status and update this thread with that info by COB on Friday.

    3. We don't have any hand-on advice to offer on MUXing multiple sensors. Some users have done this, but we don't have any implementation details to offer.

    Regards,
    John

  • Thanks John,

You said that you  upgraded the firmware. Currently, I used the default firmware in EVM. Therefore, I would like to know whether I need to upgrade my EVM. If yes, where to download the newest version of the firmware? Can you supply the source code of the EVM? I would like to change the source code based on my application.

    Thanks

  • Dengkuan,

We do not provide the EVM source code.
I used the firmware update as described in the EVM user's guide. That is the newest version of the firmware.

    Regards,
