DCA1000EVM: Help regarding acquisition of real time data using AWR2243BOOST & DCA1000EVM

Hi all,

I wish to seek help of the community regarding data acquisition using AWR2243BOOST & DCA1000EVM.

I am using the above mentioned radar to acquire and post process data using the "mmWave Studio 03.00.00.14" but this is not real time.

I was checking how to acquire and post process data in real time using Matlab and radar kit  and I found out Radar Toolbox Support Package for Texas Instruments toolbox for Matlab (https://in.mathworks.com/help/radar/ug/getting-started-realtime-adc-dca1000evm-example.html).

I was checking this and I found out that AWR2243B is not listed in the supported list of this toolbox.

Will you please include above mentioned board (AWR2243B & DCA1000EVM) in the Radar Toolbox Support Package for Texas Instruments toolbox so that I can acquire and post process data in real time using MATLAB.

Also please let me know if there is any other way where I can acquire and post process data in real time.

Please also let me know if we can acquire and post process data in real time using "mmWave Studio 03.00.00.14".

I shall be highly obliged if you kindly help me regarding this.

  • Hi Niladri,

    DCA1000 is used to capture the ADC data and the captured data can be processed on MATLAB. But you cannot stream the ADC data in real time and process it on MATLAB using AWR2243+DCA1000. If you are looking for real time processing using AWR2243, please take a look at AM273x which has DSP and Hardware Accelerator to do the signal processing. Also check the demo offered in MMWAVE-MCUPLUS-SDK Software development kit (SDK) | TI.com.

    As per your message, I understand that I can only do offline post-processing using the hardware setup DCA1000EVM & AWR2243BOOST.

    Please let me know if the real-time post processing can be integrated using Radar Toolbox Support Package for Texas Instruments in Matlab.

    Since you have suggested me AM273x, I think that with this hardware we can do real time data capture & post processing using both mmwave demo visualizer & Radar Toolbox Support Package for Texas Instruments.

    Also you have mentioned

    AWR2243

    but I have AWR2243BOOST. I hope that you meant  AWR2243BOOST(because it is different from AWR2243)

    Please let me know what I have understood and written is right and acquiring this tool will help me acquire and post-process data in real time.

    Please check with MathWorks if you can use Radar Toolbox with AWR2243+AM273x. I do not see both the devices in the supported hardware list. You should be able to use the mmWave Demo Visualizer.

    Yes, AWR2243BOOST is the evaluation module which has single-chip AWR2243 device.

    Also please let me know where will I get the AM273x board? Is a similar board like  DCA1000EVM?

    Thanks for your message.

    I have read your message carefully and tried to look into the AM273x website (https://www.ti.com/product/AM2732).

    I have seen that it is a just a processor with no connecting unit and the board related to AM273x is TMDS273EVM (https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDS273EVM).

    I think that the AWR2243BOOST has no AM273x processor on board and we have to buy separate EVM like TMDS273EVM for real time data acquisition and evaluation.

    I have already bought DCA1000EVM (https://www.ti.com/tool/DCA1000EVM) and on its webpage it is written "DCA1000 evaluation module for real-time data capture and streaming". I thought it was also for real time data acquisition and post processing.

    Please check with MathWorks if you can use Radar Toolbox with AWR2243+AM273x. I do not see both the devices in the supported hardware list. You should be able to use the mmWave Demo Visualizer.

    Yes, your understanding is correct. You need a separate EVM for AM273x.

    DFP is the mmWave device firmware package. mmWave Firmware is responsible for configuring RF/analog, digital front end in TI mmWave radar devices and consists of Radar SS firmware. This is the same firmware that you load using mmWave Studio. As mentioned in my previous replies, using AWR2243BOOST and DCA1000, you can capture the ADC data with the help of mmWave Studio and parse the data once the capturing is done. Capturing the ADC data and processing it in real time is not supported using AWR2243BOOST + DCA1000.

    So in your opinion you are suggesting me to buy this particular EVM named TMDS273EVM (https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDS273EVM) for the real time processing.

    Also in that case I will be able to access the OOB demo and mmwave demo visualizer with the duo (AWR2243+TMDS273EVM)

    I hope that I am correct.

    Please let me know this so that I can start with the purchase.
