AWR1843AOP: Is it possible to change XTAL?

Part Number: AWR1843AOP

Tool/software:

Hi team,

This is Lina covering Radar in Korea.

My customer designs an Automotive Side door system using AWR1843AOP for targeting HKMC.

They would like to use another XTAL(made by KDS:7AF04000A0W) without using the XTAL(made by DIODE:FW4000044Q) recommended by our EVM board.

Regrading the XTAL part, I know XTAL is the most critical part of the system as it determines all the Radar operation like APLL, synthesizer and all other clocks.

There seems to be no problem when I check as follows, but I would appreciate it if you could check it together.

Thanks

Lina Kim

  • Hi Lina,

The highlighted specs which are critical seems to be ok but there are few things which needs to be relooked at.

    1. The Drive level which the crystal can with stand is lesser than the Datasheet spec i.e 200uW.
    2. The ESR of the crystal also seems to be on the higher side in the 7AF04000A0W part.

    Thanks,
    Kundan

  • Hi Kundan,

    Thanks for your comments.

There is a problem with the supply of the product TI recommended, so it is inevitable to change it.

Then we also don't know the impact of two different cases (Drive level, ESR), is it right?

  • The consequences of overdriving the crystal can be reduced lifetime that means accelerated aging and spurious emissions. I would recommend customer to have a look at the Datasheet and relook at the XTAL which is well within the datasheet spec.
