TMAG3001: Power consumption calculation spreadsheet

Expert 4700 points
Part Number: TMAG3001

Tool/software:

Dear e2e Support,

Is there any tool or calculation spreadsheet, to estimate the power consumption of our DRV5xxx and TMAG in general, depending the part number, the frequency used, the supply voltage, etc... ?

Regards,

  • Hi TISL,

Thank you for posting to the Sensors forum!

Unfortunately, we do not have a tool similar to what you have described. However, for each of our parts, we do spec power consumption which can be used to help estimate the power consumption of your system.

  • Thanks Alicia

So regarding the TMAG3001, could you explain how we can compare the power consumption with the DRV5032FB (5Hz) or DRV5032FA (20Hz), for exemple?

is there a similar trick, to sample the magnetic field, in order to decrease the power consumption?

    Regards,

  • Hi TISL,

To best replicate the 5Hz/20Hz sampling rate, you would need to utilize the TMAG3001's W&S mode and select a sleeptime that would be comparable to those sampling rates. For example, 5Hz = 200ms (Note: the closest sleep time to this is 100ms), and 20Hz = 50ms.

  • Thanks Alicia

Best case (1x channel, fastest update rate, etc...), I find an average current consumption of 1.2µA for 100ms sleep time.

Do you confirm my calculation is correct? (I will send you the details in PM)

    Regards,

  • Hi TISL,

Edit. I was looking over the calculation one more time, and I noticed that there was an issue with one of the conversion numbers. I'll send the corrected info via PM.

    Best,
