IWR6843ISK-ODS: How to receive data from board to linux computer

Tool/software:

I am relatively new to TI's products and how to use them. I learning how to use this evaluation board for a University project and got as far as downloading Code Composer Studio and Uniflash on my linux computer. I understand how to write C code and upload the .bin file using Uniflash but I do not understand how I can receive data from my board or how to initiate code. Is there a software I'm missing for communication between my computer and board? How can I receive data from my board without spending too much money (ok if i need to spend a little more) on additional boards like the MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000EVM? Must I purchase one of these two additional boards just to communicate to the IWR6843, if so whats the point of having just the IWR6843?

Hello,

What kind of data are you look for? Like a point cloud for example? On Ubuntu for example, you will first need to ensure your user account is a member of the "dialout" group. You can then connect to /dev/ttyUSB0 using a serial emulator program like PuTTy or TeraTerm. You can then send configuration commands found in a .cfg file to start the sensor.

For 6843ISK-ODS point cloud performance, I highly recommend using the 3D People Tracking example found in the Radar Toolbox in the TI Developer Zone.

Flash a .bin found in the 3D People Tracking's "prebuilt_binaries" folder. Use a config found in the "chirp_configs" folder. Use the Apps visualizer by running gui_main.py from source. For the COM ports you will need to use /dev/ttyUSB0 for CFG and /dev/ttyUSB1 for DATA. You may need to remove the "/dev/" portion.
