IWR6843: RO4350B vs RO4350 LOPRO

Part Number: IWR6843

Tool/software:

Hello,

We just produced a small batch of boards based on the IWR6843ISK Rev D design.  The design was not changed other then some parts were omitted for cost savings (connectors, current measuring ICs, CAN bus components, etc).  Unfortunately the performance of the boards has been less then ideal.  We are still compiling the data but it detection range is clearly worse then the stock TI board.  The only other difference we noticed when reviewing the production files is that the board house used RO4350B for the top layer rather then RO4350 LOPRO.  Could this change account for the poorer performance?

Thank you,

-Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Yes, the antenna performance would depend on the dielectric constant (Dk) and loss tangent (Df) of the antenna layer substrate. Any change in Dk accounts for change in antenna patch dimensions for optimizing the bandwidth, resonant frequency and peak antenna gain.
