IWR6243: What are the essential differences between the automotive and the industrial MMIC radars

Part Number: IWR6243

Tool/software:

Given there are huge differences in radar requirement and capabilities, speed of sweep, size of memory, numbers of antennas, radiation bandwidth etc, what are the essential differences between the automotive and the industrial MMIC radars? Having some knowledge of these difference would help me decide which category of radar modules would be more appropriate. My applications have similarities with automotive applications and industrial application and clearly there is good reason for TI putting their devices into these two categories. So what would be the main difference between these two categories of TI radar modules?

  • Hi,

The automotive radars are automotive qualified parts, but typically, 77 GHz is used for automotive and 60 GHz is used for non-auto. We have variants of both frequencies though because there are exceptions to the rule.

    Best,

    Nate
