TMP1075: Can i use this IC for ambient temperature measurement

Part Number: TMP1075

Tool/software:

This is what suggested in the data sheet for the layout, Can I make a PCB cutout under the IC to measure ambient temperature? Is that a good idea Or any other digital IC is available with the I2C, specifically for ambient temperature measurement?

  • Hello Manikanta,

Yes TMP1075 can be used for ambient temperature measurement. When measuring ambient air temperature, there are three goals in mind:

    1)  Isolate the sensor from hot components on the PCB

    2)  Reduce the PCB area around the IC

    3)  Increase the heat transfer between the air & the sensor

Within the PCB, you can create an isolation island to help reduce heat transfer from the main heat source to the sensor through the PCB. Another option would be to create a perforation as an alternative to isolation island to minimize the amount of heat transfer through the FR4 material.
