AWR2544LOPEVM: Question Regarding Antenna Design

Part Number: AWR2544LOPEVM

Tool/software:

Nice to meet you.

When designing an antenna for the AWR2544LOPEVM, is it necessary to match the path length (electrical length) from the double-ridge port on the PCB to the antenna elements across all channels?

Or does the device include a phase calibration function, making precise matching unnecessary?

I would appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Best regards.

  • Hello,

There will always be some phase mismatch due to manufacturing variability and device tolerance. This should be measured and compensated on every sensor which is built.

However, the antenna should still be designed to be as closely matched as possible. We recommend to keep the mismatch within 2-3 degrees. Even if you calibrate the mismatch out at room temperature, the non linearities across temp will start to cause issues if the mismatch is too large between channels.

    Regards,

    Adrian
