IWR6843AOP: SNR and Noise Values in the Output Point Cloud

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Tool/software:

Hi,

I try to understand the values that are outputted from the OOB FW for IWR6843AOP.

I see the values in the point cloud, all of them are positive, both for SNR and Noise values, the SNRs are within [320,370] for a corner of ~20dBsm at 3 meters.

I want the SNR values in the dB notation, i.e., 10log10(x).

How do I convert them?

The theoretic value should be around 78dB for such a corner at 3 meters.

Thanks in advance,

Shlomi

  • Hi Shlomi,

Based off C:/ti/mmwave_sdk_03_06_00_00-LTS/packages/ti/datapath/dpu/rangeproc/docs/doxygen/html/struct_d_p_i_f___point_cloud_side_info__t.html, I think the units should be in 0.1 dB, meaning you're seeing like 32-37 dB. I know you've done these calculations before and I trust that you would not make a mistake with your estimate for detected SNR. Do you results scale appropriately if you place the reflector 4/5/6/7... meters away? I am curious if perhaps the device is receiving too much power and the signal is getting distorted?

    Best,

    Nate
