TMAG5170-Q1: resources and capability

Part Number: TMAG5170-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

I need to use the magnetic sensors in a magnetic field leakage (MFL) application where the sensors are assembled between the legs of a strong permanent horseshoe magnet. I have the following two questions:

1) If the sensor is placed momentarily close to the leg of the magnet, the strength of the magnetic field would exceed the max sensing range of the sensor by an order of magnitude. Can exposure to such fields damage the sensor or cause permanent sensitivity drift once the strong field is removed?

2) Is there a ready-to-use library for the sensor that can be downloaded to make it easy to interface with a microcontroller?

Thank you!

  • Hi Jafar,

Thank you for posting to the Sensors forum!

    1) If the sensor is placed momentarily close to the leg of the magnet, the strength of the magnetic field would exceed the max sensing range of the sensor by an order of magnitude. Can exposure to such fields damage the sensor or cause permanent sensitivity drift once the strong field is removed?

One of the benefits of using hall-effect technology, is that exposing the device to larger magnetic fields (even if the magnetic field exceeds the max sensing range) will not damage the device.

    2) Is there a ready-to-use library for the sensor that can be downloaded to make it easy to interface with a microcontroller?

We do provide code examples that be referenced: TMAG5170-CODE-EXAMPLE
