AWR1843: 28.8GHz Spur Reduction Using APLL VCO RTRIM

Part Number: AWR1843

Tool/software:

I am using the AWR1843 and wish to adjust the APLL VCO RTRIM value (as mentioned in the "TI mmWave Radar Device Regulatory Compliance Guide") to help reduce the spurious emission at 28.8 GHz.  I can see it is currently getting set to a value of 6 in our firmware but would like to know if there is any information on the relation between the RTRIM settings and the PLL operational parameters so that we can select an appropriate RTRIM value that reduces the spurious without adversely affecting the PLL operation.

  • Hello,

The only values we support for AWR1843 are 0x12 and 0x6. With a value of 0x6 you can expect a degradation in the phase noise of around 1dB at 1MHz offset across PVT.

We do not support any other values of r-trim on AWR1843. The r-trim settings are not linear so you cannot pick any values between 0x12 and 0x6 and expect it to work. You will see significant degradation in phase noise performance if you choose to set a different value.

    Regards,

    Adrian
