I want to make a sensor with a capacitive structure on the copper foil of a PCB. The application manual shows copper foil, GND, and barrier layers. I would like to ask how many mm is required between the copper foil and GND? I use double-layer boards. Does the barrier layer need to be constructed directly under the copper foil?

I recommend taking a look at the EVM. You can find the design files in the "design files" section of the link below. There are 2 PCB sensors on this board and both are using the shield around and below the sensors. In the image below, you can see there is spacing of 0.2286mm between shield and sensor connected to Cin1. The shield on the bottom layer covers the sensor area and is spaced by the barrier of the PCB. This is a standard PCB of 1.6mm thickness.
