AWR2944: AWR2944: The design problems with antennas of our custom AWR2944 board

Part Number: AWR2944

Tool/software:

Hi,

According to AWR2944 EVM hardware design, we design our own board and AWR2944 EVM  as belows:

and our PCB is as belows:

Radar_2944 V1.0.PcbDoc.zip

By road test, we compare our board and AWR2944 EVM board. We find a poblem for our board more noisy points are introduced.  we think may be two factors, one is the manufacturing process of antenna, the other is the location of antenna.Though the hardware designs are identical,  because of the different manufacture and different board material, that lead to different performances, is that right? What parameters or factors will affect antenna performance?  By comparing the two boards we can see that:the  antenna location of our own board is  in the middle of the board, while in the AWR2944 EVM, the antenna loaction is in the left of the board. will more noisy points be introduced for different antenna location? If not,  what other reasons will lead to more noisy points?

Thanks,

BR

  • Hi Rata,

Can you elaborate on what is the nature of the 'noisy points'?  Are these spurs in the FFT?  Can you share an FFT, or data capture where you see higher noise?

Have you measured the radiation pattern of the antenna on your design and compared to EVM?

Your antenna placement looks OK to me.  Different manufacture tolerances can cause some differences in antenna performance like antenna gain, pattern and isolation.

    regards,

    Ali
