MMWCAS-RF-EVM: MMWCAS-RF-EVM

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, , AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM, TIDA-020047

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am currently searching for a long-range radar solution for my new project (specifically for detecting objects with low RCS values at a range of 500 meters and beyond). I came across the AWR2243 chip-based MMWCAS-RF-EVM from TI. However, after reviewing the product page, I couldn't find any specific information on the range. I did find the following statement in the document I linked: "Imaging radar using TI mmWave sensors provides great flexibility to sense and classify objects in the near field at a very high resolution while simultaneously tracking targets in the far field up to 400 m away." But I couldn't find any other documentation that confirmed this information.

Can you help me confirm the maximum range I can achieve with the MMWCAS-RF-EVM? I would appreciate any assistance on this matter.

Also, I wonder if you provide any software-based code for developing radar software.  Additionally, if you have any other solutions that you could recommend, I would be happy to consider them.

  • Hi,

The MMWCAS-RD-EVM is capable of detecting a vehicle up to 300m

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

I want to be sure that you provide technical software for development.  After purchasing the MMWCAS-RF-EVM card, do you provide a base software for software development?

I would be happy if you provided further information about this.

  • This is a very good question.

The MMWCAS kit is only provided as a data capture solution. There is NO SDK available.

If you are interested in developing a cascade solution we recommend using one of our thrid parties such as Smart Radar Systems Smart Radar System | Main

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

We are currently reviewing your third-party offering. Thank you for your interest.

What about AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM? I realized that Texas Instruments provides an SDK for this evaluation module. I want to be sure that you provide base software for development.

Also, I wonder what the differences are between AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM and this one "https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-020047" ? The second one has design files, but the first one doesn't.
    Best regards.
  • Hi,

The AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM is an updated version of the schematics provided in https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-020047. The new schematics should be uploaded to the page in the near future.

A demo that is optimized for long range is available on the TI Resources Explorer in the Radar Toolbox.

The source code is available and can be modified. There is also an SDK provided.

However, our support team can only provide limited support for modifying the demol.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

First of all, thank you for your attention. I attempted to contact Smart Radar System but was unable to reach anyone. Could you please provide the contact number of one of the Smart Radar Systems team members so that I can get in touch?

By the way, I reviewed the TI Resources Explorer within the Radar Toolbox to examine the source code for the AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM, but I was unable to locate it. Could you please highlight the specific section or provide additional details on where to find it?

    Best Regards,

    Serhat Arslan.

  • Here is the reference for the AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM software:

Regarding Smart Radar System, they will contact you if they are available. Our team does not have a direct contact.

    thank you

  • Hello Cesar,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your interest. I would be happy if you could provide dimensions of this AWR2243-2X-CAS-EVM. We have ordered this EVM, and we are in a rush to produce some boxes to cover this EVM. Could you share the technical dimensions of this EVM? It might be useful to share STEP drawing file to examine dimensions.

  • Hi,

I am checking with the hardware team

    thank you

    Cesar

  • I did not get a response from hw team yet but I was able to measure the board myself.

    It is 100mmx130mm

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

First of all, thank you for your support and interest.
We have ordered the MMWAVE-AS-RF-EVM, but unfortunately, we have observed some potential malfunctions during our initial tests. I would like to confirm whether there might be a known issue with this EVM.

Specifically, we suspect a malfunction related to the antennas. As you can see in the below images, there is some breaking on the antenna path.

Additionally, we’ve noticed a 25-second delay when displaying detection point information on the MATLAB visualizer. Even when there was no object present at all, a significant amount of noise still appeared on the visualizer. We believe that both the delay and the excessive noise might be caused by an issue related to the antennas.

If there is indeed a problem with the RX or TX antennas, could you please guide us on how we can proceed to troubleshoot or resolve this?

    Looking forward to your feedback.

  • Hi

Can you please start a new thread for these questions?

    This will help support you

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello Cesar,

I have opened a new thread to obtain the relevant simulation models or documentation. However, I would like to ask whether my concern regarding the antenna issue has been taken into account.

I am looking forward to your reply.

    Best Regards

  • Please mention that in the same thread for the hw team

    thank you
