AWR1843AOP: Request for Suitable Radar Module and Applications for Static and Dynamic Object Detection

Hello TI Team,

I am currently using the AWR1843AOPEVM, but as informed by a TI team member, it does not support static object detection.

I am planning to develop two radar-based applications that serve as alert/warning systems:

The first application should detect both static and dynamic objects within a range of up to 100 meters, and include Doppler speed information in the output data.
The second application should detect both static and dynamic objects within 50 meters, also including Doppler speed information in the output.

Could you please recommend a suitable radar module or EVM along with applications (preferably with source code) that can support these requirements?

No there are not suitable radar applications that have static detections for the ranges you are requesting.

Could you please suggest suitable a radar module with application for detecting only dynamic objects within a detection range of up to 50 meters and 100 meters?

Here is a general picture present on the TI website Automotive mmWave radar sensors | TI.com Please refer to the website in order to make an educated decision on what best fits your use-case. To give a good suggestion the MRR demo for the AWR1843 (not AWR1843AOP) would be good for dynamic detection at about 50m. Also, the HECR demo for the AWR2944 or AWR2x44p would be viable solutions for 100m dynamic detection. All these demos are present in the radar toolbox at this path

I would like to confirm and clarify your earlier statement:

"No, there are not suitable radar applications that have static detections for the ranges you are requesting."

Does this mean that the AWR1843AOP radar chip is inherently not capable of detecting static objects in the range of 0 to 50 meters or 0 to 100 meters?

Is it that there are currently no specific radar applications /demo developed by TI that support static object detection over those ranges using the AWR1843AOP or AWR1843BOOST modules?

Understanding whether this is a hardware limitation or simply a matter of application availability would be very helpful for our development planning.

Hello,

It is inherently more difficult for radar to detect static objects than doppler ones. Refer to the following E2E for more context.

With the AWR1843 I have not seen an application that can detect static objects more than about 20m. So yes, I do not believe this device is the correct one for your application.
