TI-MAGNETIC-SENSE-SIMULATOR: TIMSS simulation

Part Number: TI-MAGNETIC-SENSE-SIMULATOR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5253, DRV5055

Tool/software:

Hi Ti:

I started to learn the TIMSS tool;

1/ Do you mind tell me which color is North and which is south?

2/ The horizontal axis of the results means the distance movement? I mean start position is 0 and final position is the end of horizontal axis ?

3/ Is it possible to add more magnets since it is already can add 6 sensors inside?

  • I found IT did not well defined the color with magnetic field polarity, for example, in the TMAG5253 datasheet, red is south but it is opposite in the DRV5055 datsheet.

  • Dear User,

    It is a fairly common convention that N is red, and this is the case in TIMSS.  Thank you for pointing out the image from the TMAG5253 datasheet.  I will ask that our authors look into changing that to be more clear.  What is important for any sensor is to understand which directions are considered positive magnetic flux.  Depending on the positioning of the magnet we are interested in the direction of the magnetic field vector to determine the output response.

    The horizontal axis "Magnet Displacement" does indicate how far the magnet has moved from the start position towards the final position, and the start position is at 0mm.

    We have some concerns adding more magnets since it is not uncommon to mix magnetic materials.  The tool does not account for the entire B-H hysteresis loop of the magnetic material nor the magnetic permeance of the magnet material, and so the simulation is limited to a single magnet.

    Thanks,

    Scott
