AWRL6432: Does TX/RX channel isolation affect to detection performance much?

Hello team,

Customer is curious if distance/isolation on between TX and RX channel brings big performance difference. Seems out EVM takes care a lot by using via holes. As long as application doesn't detect very close object(like few cm), then, can TX and RX be located right next to each other? What would be possible issue if TX and RX channel is close?

Hi Victor,

The distance between the transmitter and receiver channels is important as it determines the isolation between the channels. As the distance increases, the isolation will also increase which improves the signal integrity. If the RX and TX channels are very close, the TX power will leak directly into the RX and will distort the entire received signal, therefore reducing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Additionally, this leakage can cause the receiver to start detecting false signals.

Thanks for the comments. Understood about importance of the distance. By the way, then, does GND isolation and via isolation affect to performance a lot? Now customer doesn't have GND isolation and vis isolation. They are curious if this bring big performance degradation so having GND and via isolation is essential for RF antenna design. What is our comments and thoughts?

Also, if we have some test result or web site link regarding noise level vs isolation, please share that. It would be very helpful for customer's development.

Hi Victor,

There should be minimum of 30db of RX to TX isolation. Isolation increases with more distance between RX to TX. If the minimum isolation is not met, you can add more GND and Via stiching. If isolation limit is already met, then not much impact would be there even when we increase GND and vias.
