AWR1843: GCPW to Stripline Transition Guidance

Part Number: AWR1843

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are designing a new board around the AWR1843 and came across Application Report SPRACG5 from May 2018, which discusses routing the single-ended 50 Ohm Tx/Rx traces on either RO4835 LoPro or RO3003 laminate. Our application requires we transition from a GCPW on the top layer, as discussed in the Application Report, to a stripline on layer 4 of our PCB. Does TI have any additional Application Reports, or guidance from past internal testing, on a good starting point for the transition design? Specifically, we are looking for dimensions on suitable via diameter, antipad diameter, and stictching/fencing via spacing. We are planning to simulate this transition in a full-wave simulator, but were hoping you could provide a good starting place so we were not starting from scratch.

Thank you for your help. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week.

Craig.

  • Hello,

I think the only example we have is the AWR2243 4-chip cascade board. This board has an L1-L3 transition for the 20GHz LO routing. Of course, you would need to tune this for 80GHz but it could be used as a starting point.

    Regards,

    Adrian
