IWR6843: IWR6843 upside down orientation

Hi,

I am using IWR6843ISK radar module. I am keeping orientation of radar like antenna patch on right top side. Which is the straight orientation. In this orientation I have observed radar is giving intermittent values of an object in front of it. But if I change the orientation, now the antenna patch is bottom left side. I am getting proper detections of an object. What exactly the reason for this behaviour? I am using long range people detection binary with 3d configuration.

Hi Manoj,

The radar's performance may not be exactly symmetrical. You should get similar results on both sides, but they are not guaranteed to be identical. Are you testing in a large outdoor scene?

Hi Nathan,

Yes, I am testing it in outdoor scene. Where I am pointing radar towards large building wall. And for the same object getting different results for both the mentioned orientations.

Hi Manoj,

What is the amount of difference you're seeing between both sides? Can you quantify it in dB? If it is less than 3 dB or so it's likely attributable to the antenna. If it is more, than please provide point cloud or heatmap data to support.
