TMAG5231: Requirements for Reinforcing Steel Plates

Part Number: TMAG5231

Tool/software:

Dear TI Engineer,

What are the requirements for reinforcing steel sheets in using TMAG5231A1CQDMRR? And can non demagnetized steel sheets be used? What are the effects of steel reinforcement without demagnetization on the PCBA on the device? The steel sheet we use is 304 steel sheet, and there will be a 5-15 Gaussian magnetic field present, we want to know if this has an impact on the normal operation of TMAG5231.

Thanks,

Kind regards

  • Lumina,

If I am not mistaken, 304 steel is a type of non-magnetic stainless steel.  Under normal circumstances you should observe only minor effect, if any.

On the other hand, use of a ferromagnetic steel provides a low reluctance path for the magnetic field and can alter and distort its normal path.  This could cause either an increase or decrease in the field observed by the sensor, depending on the mechanical alignment.

    Thanks,

    Scott
