IWR6843ISK: Vertical Beamforming Guidelines

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hello all,

To start, I have read and understood the primer document Beamforming In Lrpd. Due to mounting space constraints in my application, my goal is to have 10° beamforming in the elevation angle (vertical, upwards). I am using the ISK antenna pattern, where TX1 is spaced λ/2 away the +z direction. I have calculated that I need a txPhaseShifter value of 6144 in the profileCfg command. I would like to verify that the direction of the beamforming is correct. 6144 should result in the beam moving 10.7° above the horizontal plane, not below. Also, another question I have is how much vertical beamforming is recommended? I don't expect stellar results if I try to beamform more than ±20° in elevation. Are the simulation tools or resources for estimating the beamforming interference pattern? I'm wondering If higher elevation angles can be achieved if I use the TX power backoff bitmask for TX0 and TX1. I understand that the exact answer to these questions will take experimentation, but I am looking rule-of-thumb guidance from those with more experience.
