OPT3004: opt3004

Part Number: OPT3004

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am planning to use the OPT3004 for a day and night detector for my outdoor camera product. See a picture below:

the diameter of the light opening is 5 mm and the distance from the PCB is 12 mm.

Can it work? Should I use some light guide? Are there any?

Thanks

Noam

  • Hello Noam,

I did a quick simulation and with your dimensions given, device would have an effective field of view of +/- ~12 degrees.  This means light is only reaching the sensor when it is coming from within 12 degrees from the horizontal.   A light pipe(light guide) could be a good solution to this. Many of our customers alternatively place our optical sensors on separate dedicated boards that allow them to place sensor where it will be most effective.

You could do some testing as to the levels of light reaching sensor through-out the day in current configuration and if there's enough difference between night and day seen in reported sensor values than you just need to set your limit appropriately.

    Thank you,
